HOW BOTOX® COSMETIC WORKS

A combination of factors can cause facial lines. It’s not just about the cellular changes that may occur, or reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment.

Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. Is it safe to get Botulinum Toxin injections at Wink Med Spa?

Botulinum toxin is inherently a protein with toxicity. However, as a medical cosmetic treatment, botulinum toxin has been extensively diluted, resulting in very low toxicity levels. Human medical use of botulinum toxin has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration since 1992. The botulinum toxin types commonly used in medical treatments are Type A and Type B. Wink Med Spa selects Type A botulinum toxin brands, which have been proven to be safe and effective.

How long does it take to see results after Botulinum Toxin injections? How often do you need to get them?

Changes can typically be felt within 3-7 days after injection, with visible changes noticeable to the naked eye within two weeks. Since botulinum toxin acts as a protein to inhibit muscles, its effect is also limited by its duration. The noticeable effect of botulinum toxin typically lasts for 4-6 months. It is usually recommended to get injections every 3 months or every six months to maintain the effect.

▲ Before the Procedure:

• Avoid fasting before injections if possible.

• Avoid alcohol consumption one week before injections.

• Avoid taking medications such as aspirin two weeks before injections.

• Try to schedule injections to avoid menstruation.

▲ After the Procedure:

• Mild redness and swelling of the skin are normal; do not scratch, as it will gradually recover.

• Avoid getting the injection site wet for 1-2 hours after the procedure.

• Avoid lying down, massaging, or rubbing the face for 4-6 hours after the injection.

• Avoid hot or cold compresses on the injection site for 24 hours after the injection.

• Avoid spicy seafood for a week after the injection, as it may cause inflammation and bleeding at the injection site.

• Avoid taking antibiotics for a week after the injection. Avoid taking penicillin and cephalosporin.

• Avoid drinking alcohol for 3 days after the injection and avoid steam sauna for a week.

• Avoid vigorous exercise; do not go dancing or to the gym immediately after the injection.
